Dick Manten
Manten Marina was founded when Dick Manten, a well known Master Boat Builder, purchased the current premises in 1974.

It was a fairly derelict property which he and his family set about renovating. With his great capacity for hard work and his incredible foresight, Dick Manten raised the level of the property above the flood level and then built harbour walls. Not just little walls but huge walls, 12m high.

These harbour walls created the first really safe and secure Berthing Harbour on the Vaal Dam.

About Manten Marina

Based in Deneysville, Vaaldam, Manten Marina provides professional services to the boating community and have done so since 1974. We cater for all boat enthusiasts with a passion for their boats. We provide a mooring and storage service, and a complete professional boat maintenance service. Our maintenance services include but are not limited to Weekly Boat Maintenance, Annual Boat Maintenance and General Boat Maintenance. Manten Marina also offer complete Boat Refurbishments and Repairs and we have a Boat Salvage Division in case we need to salvage a boat that has sunk.

Mooring Maintenance

All moorings are regularly checked and maintained to ensure the safety of the yachts on moorings. We are on site 24/7 so we are able to see if there is a problem timeously in order to assist where required before major damage occurs.

SAMSA – Boating Laws and Requirements

All boat users must comply with the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) laws. Skippers must have a Certificate of Competence (COC - skipper’s ticket). Boats must have all safety equipment and a Certificate of Fitness must be issued for the boat every year. All power boats are to have adequate buoyancy fitted and a buoyancy certificate issued. National Sea Rescue Institute

NSRI Station 22 Vaaldam has two rescue craft for deployment to rescues on the Vaaldam. 7m Sem Rigid Inflatable Rescue boat “Spirit of Round Table” and our “Discovery Rescue Runner 11”, similar to a Jetski, for inaccessible areas.
