Dick Manten Manten MarinaMANTEN MARINA, previously Dick Manten Boat Builders, was founded by the late Dick Manten Senior. His son, Dick Manten, took over the helm in 1995 together with his wife Kathy, and children Dirk, Jake and Cassidy. All members of the family are sailors and boaters having been involved in water sports practically their whole lives.

The extreme fluctuations of the Vaaldam water level, (due to flood and drought conditions), demanded a major re-construction and building program of the Marina. At the official opening it was described as “The finest inland yachting facility in the Southern Hemisphere.”

The National Sea Rescue Institute, (NSRI), Station 22 Vaaldam, and its rescue craft and facilities have been housed at the Marina since 1985. It is manned amongst others by the Manten Family. We are always on call and have been involved in countless incidents and rescues during these years.

We take care of more than 200boats in our harbour, marina rounds and moorings at any given time. We run a workshop which specialises in boat maintenance, repairs and refurbishments. We build 5 classes of yachts up to 34 meters. Formula One, Nimbus 900, Cirrus. Mountgay 30, Miura and two powerboats namely a 34' Eurocruiser and a 5 m Sea Tiger.

We have been appointed as South African Maritime Safety Authority Surveyors and as an Authorised Agency of South African Sailing in terms of the Merchant Shipping (Small Vessel Safety) Regulations and as safety officers on the Vaaldam. Many Insurance companies make use of our services as boat surveyors and in order to repair/rebuild damaged craft.

Dick Manten runs a boat transport facility for craft of all sizes and provide a comprehensive “water to water” service which includes dropping and securing the rigging on craft and reassembling all at the destination. We have transported monohulls and catamarans up to 45-foot-long to date. Dick Manten drives the rig personally so his personal touch and expertise is experienced on each and every job.

Our years on the water and in the industry have given us national acceptance and good standing in all aspects of the business, the industry, and from the sailing fraternity throughout South Africa.
